[[ KNK Japanese/Korean BBQ Restaurant ]]

- Saturday, January 19, 2008 -
The DF0042 gang loves to eat and try out new food.
Today, for no reason, we decided to gather and had a dinner together.
Initially it was planned to go to the Paris restaurant @ PJ SS2. However, some felt that it was just too boring to eat there, so one of the DF0042 member Ee Jet had a better suggestion....

So here we're heading to Sri Hartamas, looking for the Japanese BBQ restaurant that nominated by Ee Jet.

The KNK (Kannichikan Yakiniku) Restaurant @ Sri Hartamas

It's operating ~! Let's go in ~

Once we stepped inside, we're greeted by the staff with the familiar Japanese word, "Irrashaimase ~"
This place must be quite popular among the Japanese living in KL, because 90% of the customer here are the REAL Japanese ! While we walking to our seats, we can hear them chatting in Japanese language.

Inside the restaurant, a bit smokey because everyone is doing the Yakiniku (Japanese grilled meat).

Ee Jet has called to reserve a table for the gang earlier, so we have been placed to sit at the platform type seats, and we have to take off our shoes to put our leg in. They also put some Croc shoes there in case we need to walk around in the shop.

A corner of the shop, we're sitting on this platform type seats :)

Jet and Jeanie

Kong & ......his gf (shit...Kong! what's your gf name ar ?)

Enough story !! Everbody is hungry already, lets start order lar !

The appetizer Kimchi & Japanese ice tea...

While waiting for the food to come, we've been given some appetizer and Japanese ice tea in one big bottle. The ice tea is a bit different than the Ocha we used to have in other Jap restaurants, it has very light coffee taste in it.

We've ordered two big sets which are mainly beef. Additional to that, we've also ordered some lamb & chicken. Soon, the raw food has arrived and they put a stove with burning coals into the hole in the middle of the table, where we will do the cooking ourselves on it ~

Yummy, very tender beef slices :D

The beef are cut into thin slices, and look very fresh. Put it on the grill for a few minutes, and Voila ! Its done and ready to filling up your taste bud ! They are so tender and juicy, and the special source they used to mix with the beef is really tasty and sweet.
There are something new and special to us which most of us have never tested before. It's the ox tongue !! We've tried so many parts from the cows: sirloin, lung, liver, intestines and oxtail, even to their eyes (mata kerbau), but this is the first time most of us see & eat the ox tongue ! It looks so clean and pink in color and doesn't look like your tongue at all which has many whitish buds on it.

The ox tongue vs Jet's tongue !

Wonder what is the feeling da-k-lun with ox tongue ? It has the QQ feeling when you bite on it, and a little bit like ham. I think its a lot better than your partner's tongue !

Cook it yourself is always fun ! See nobody touch the appetizer at all...

Jet's saliva can't stop leaking...

Soooo Delicious, Yummilicious, Sweetilicious, Juicilicious ~

Two late comers: Ah Lee & Yvonne, a couple who don't eat beef !

The staff gives us a new grill :)

Look at the fire !!

Kong is showing you how nice is the food ~

Chean got bored while waiting for the meat become cooked.

We certainly eating too fast, unlike the Japanese who really know how to enjoy the food. We found that we are still far from enough after we've finished the sets we ordered, so we ordered few plates of chicken and lamb. Then the watermelon comes as dessert when we asked for the bill.

The dessert - sweet & juicy watermelon !

Ee Jet can't describe his feeling in words, so he dance it out...

We're really satisfied with the food. The services are good and has to be good as well because most of the customer are Japanese there. Although the bill has came with a hopping price at around RM450++, but its reasonable for what we have to pay for the cows we killed, the tongues we cutted and the meats we eaten. It is inhumanity though....

Try it out if you're looking for Japanese Yakiniku restaurant, it can't be wrong if the Japanese also go there ! Strictly not for vegetarian !!

[[ Pumpkin Porridge Steamboat ]]

- Friday, August 17, 2007 -
Porridge steamboat may not be a new thing already nowadays, as most of us have already tasted the well-known porridge steamboat from Tian Yuan (田园) for more than once. Frankly to say, I'm kinda sien already eating their porridge steamboat....

So, how about Pumpkin Porridge Steamboat ?

We first heard of it from Kin Loong's mouth when the last time we had our porridge steamboat dinner at Tian Yuan. It sounds interesting and I could imagine that it should taste like the pumpkin soup I had before, sweet and tasty.

Thanks to Chunny's strong desire on nice food, he invited us to try out the Pumpkin Steamboat together on Monday's night. So Chunny, Kongny, Karen, Loongny including myself headed to the restaurant named Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen (淋园火锅小馆) located in Cheras Queen's Park.

Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen (淋园火锅小馆)
At first, we ordered three person sets, an additional plate of beef slices and 'sauce burst‘ meat ball (酱爆肉丸).

The raw food looks fresh and clean ~

What's the steamboat soup ? Of course Pumpkin Porridge lor !!
We also ordered a side dish - Nam Yue Spare Ribs 南乳排骨. Taste good, but I preferred Tian Yuan's.

The Nam Yue spare rib is hot and tasty, look at Chunny's hungry face

They started putting the food into the Pumpkin porridge, while I was busy taking photos.

I remembered someone said, 'Waiting is the most painful thing'. Yes it always is.

Whoa! It's cooked ! Let's start eating ~

Kong just couldn't stop drooling while looking at the food.

After we've finished the food inside the pot, we still have two eggs left. As usual, we did the 'Eggs flower 蛋花' trick again, performed by Chef Ho.

Look at his lansee face, like nobody in this world can break the egg as good as him....

Look at his cheeky sepet eyes, he must be thinking that he looks cool using spoon to stir while others use folk....

Look at his lansee face again ! Wie Siong, he is challenging you to see who makes the better egg flower (蛋花) lah !!

Kong, 'Chow hai, fai lan dit lar !'
(mother fucker, faster lar !)
The Pumpkin porridge soup is just so nice especially after added the eggs. It's so sweet and tasty until we finished all the pumpkin porridge.

The Aftermath

Chun was shocked when he found out that his spare tyre rim has increased from 16" to 18".

The bill arrived at RM131.99. I think it's quite reasonable at around RM26 per pax, as we had ordered somemore additional food.

The bill, 1 cent for the tips so it's RM132 in total :p

The only girl that night, Karen on the left

Overall, I'm very satisfied with their food and services. The food is fresh and clean, and the Pumpkin Porridge soup is just nice, not too sweet. The service was very good as well because from time to time the staff will come and check on your table, add porridge and tea for you when necessarily, probably because it's not that crowded that night. Next time if I'm to go for porridge steamboat, for sure I will choose this Pumpkin Porridge steamboat again, until I've bored at it or something new has come out.

Queen's Park, Cheras
Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen is located at Cheras Queen's Park, along Peel Road and opposite Cheras Carrefour. Parking inside Queen's Park only RM1, and it has many factory outlet shops like MNG, Esprit, Giordano, etc and it even has Starbucks and Sushi King, definitely a place to visit.

[[ Sushi Mania! ]]

- Thursday, April 12, 2007 -
Every year, the famous Japanese restaurant, Sushi King will have a promotion period, where they offer their member to enjoy their conveyor belt sushi for RM2 per plate! And that time of joy has come, starting 9th April to 12th April, every sushi lover (I guess as well as cheap and stingy folks) just went crazy in these 4 days!

For no reason, we went for Sushi King on Saturday, 2 days before the promotion, probably envy, might be dissatisfy, perhaps pride, pushed us to get a bite on those delicious sushi. Yupe, you guess right, no one among us is a Sushi King privilege card member. Duuuhhhh...

So, the first 2 days were crazy days for others, but not us.
How crazy has others gone? Take my colleague for example, he went there for lunch, dinner, 2 days in a row, consuming at least 11 plates each visit!

11th April, which was Yanny's birthday, the urge to get these cheap tasty sushi had made him ventured to the arena of sushi in 1U shopping mall, with 2 of his comrades, me (Chun) and Cheany (Kong was at Macau enjoying his 18 sauna). Thanks to my colleague, who lent me his member card.

First day, thanks to ignorance, we ate lots of those half ring plates (the sample plate on top of left and right stack)

As expected, long queue in front of the Sushi King branch. We waited around 1 hour to get our butt sat in front of the conveyor belt. With no delay, acting like never had sushi before, we grabbed tons of them. "Wah, octopus, jeng!" "Wah, jelly fish!" We were like starving refugee yelling and stuffing them into our stomach. Our all time favorite, the Unagi Sushi! Plates after plates, rolls after rolls, until our big belly surrender... How many we took? Approximately 31 plates!

But when the bill came, we were like WTF?! Apparently, some of the sushi was not on the RM2 promotion, and they are differentiated with a half ring plate, we actually saw a card written this next to the belt, but we didn't really take attention to it... Well, that cost us around RM94+...

All time favorite, Unagi Sushi! Look at that juicy big grilled unagi, yummy!

12th April, while I had just parked my car at Mid Valley, was going there for dinner and movie with colleagues, that crazy Chean called me. He told me he had this hallucination, smelling sushi aroma even in the office! OMFG! So we went for sushi, again. Yanny were not able to join because mum had cooked.

Second day, not much but still alot!

Both of us also felt not that hungry despite that crazy Chean's sushi
hallucination. So, after a few plates, we decided only focus on our all time favorite Unagi Sushi again! Oh man, I think after 2 days of sushi marathon, we are not gonna touch any sushi again, in the next couple of months... (BTW, we have some sushi coupon deadline on 22th April, sushi anyone? Hahaha)
