[[ Gunung Nuang - Attempt 2 ]]

- Sunday, March 25, 2007 -
First attempt was last Sunday, we went with the girls, and other bunch of KK wanna be, total of 19 people, just managed to hit entrance of Lolo camp, the old dam water gate, but it was a very good result consider most of us are "cityman" which lack of exercises!

Today we, me(Chun), Kong, Chean, Yanny and Jetty went for attempt number 2! We gathered ourselves at 630am, arrived at the registration office around 730am, moving our ass towards the mountain 740am.

We met a group of hikers, big family, with heavy backpacks and gears, at the parking ground there. Looked like they were planning to camp in the mountain, Lolo camp site perhaps?

We traveled in light, too light I would say, 1 hot dog bread for each one, a few chocolate bars, and some of them just brought a small bottle size mineral water, are we nuts?

There goes another pair of Chean's snickers...

Dunno why, the journey seemed harder and longer than last week, we stopped like 3 or 4 times to rest our ass off. Slopes after slopes, everyone was yelling "Is it there yet?!" numerous time.
One of the reason was probably the path was muddy and slippery, extra effort needed to get ourselves moving. And travel in a big group does make a morale difference, compare to 5 of us, at least in that big group, you can see people ahead of you, while the little few of us, can only s
ee never ending steep slopes...

Jet posting the victory sign while jerking off.. eerr... pee-ing

At last, around 930am, we arrived at the water gate! While we were resting and planning for the next move, a group of aged uncles.... eerr... hikers appeared. Apparently they were the one who drove the 4WD jeep, which we roughly saw it when we started to climb toward the water gate.

The tired "F4"...

We were still making fun around while the aged uncles were long gone. Because Yanny needed to attend his friend's wedding rehearsal at 2pm, so we set our cut off time at 10am, that means we climb whatever we could, until 10am, we move down. At least we have a target now, so we just move on from there.

Campers were all over Lolo camp, camps were one after another, we also saw the aged uncles setting up theirs too. And there it is, the path toward Dataran Pacat, it was 10 years ago I stepped my foot on it for the first time! Without hesitation, we submerged ourselves into the forest again.

This time, there were no slopes after slopes, but it was almost 45 degrees steep path all the way!! The journey was extremely tiring, but we felt quite excited, this was almost new to us, and it's challenging! Frankly speaking, we have walked that route to Lolo camp dozen of times, and it's damn boring and demotivating! And now this is what I call hiking! At first, we were still able to talk cocks and making jokes, but after 20 minutes, everyone started to have this
unbearable sourness pain in their legs.

The endless 45 degrees path.

Then we saw the aged uncles, coming from our back, and walk passed, quite relax, well, at least we could say we had walked 1 1/2 hours before this, but they just drove here. It was almost 11am when we stopped again, arguing to continue or move down. The guys' shoes were too slippery for that condition, they were doing moon walk almost from starting, and we were tired and thirsty, I really wanted to continue badly, but looking at Yanny's appointment, and everyone tired face, including myself of course, we just had to accept the fact we were not ready this time, in terms of time and stamina... While we were struggling to make the decision, a group of hikers with 4 elderly, passed by, this time I was starting to feel bad... According to them, at that point, we still need around 1 hour to reach dataran pacat, 3 hours to reach the
top/summit.

Bad condition steep slope.

We have no choice but to move downward. Along the way, we saw the big family we met at the parking ground again, with those big 60 liters backpacks, they were aiming for the top! OK, now I felt totally ashamed. From time to time, we met all sorts of people, climbing towards the summit, walking down from the summit, elderly, youngster, you name it. Some info we got from them, we need approximately 7-10 hours to a round trip back and forth the summit!! And we just brought some breads and chocolate bars? Sheesshhh...

Guess what's going on here?
